Monarch butterfly

Generation after generation the monarch butterfly lay eggs which makes a caterpillar that grows up to be a butterfly. When a Mother butterfly lays her eggs, it takes a few days then the caterpillar hatches out.

For a caterpillar to grow up, it eats milkweed leaves from the swan plant. A caterpillar eats milkweed for 2 reasons; 1 is that a caterpillar has enough energy to turn into a butterfly. The second reason is so when the bird comes to eats the adult butterfly is spits it out because of the poisonous milkweed.

After the caterpillar is full it goes to a tree nearby and hangs up side down and turns into a chrysalis. As it hangs up side down it waits for about 2 and a half weeks until the chrysalis turns black. After 2 weeks it hatches out of the chrysalis and a butterfly pops out with two massive wings.

Cross Country

Nervously waiting on the cold hard concrete, I challenged myself to beat my mates at today's Cross Country. As I was sitting on the freezing court watching the races, I could feel whistling wind blowing against my face. Huffing and puffing, I was going to complete today's hard race. Crossing the finish line, I felt very dizzy and tired, but I was proud because I had won!.

Ferdinand Magellan

Ferdinand Magellan was born in Portugal in 1480. Magellan disagreed with the government of portugal because he hated them so much that he went to Spain. Ferdinand went to Spain and asked the king for money and a boat so much that the king gave him a boat called Victoria. He needed the boat to travel south west because of the dangerous Portugese blocking the route around Africa trying to get to Asia for trade.

Magellan went though the south Atlantic ocean down past south America and though the strait. It took Ferdinand months and months to sail through the new quiet and peaceful ocean, so he named this ocean, the Pacific ocean. His crew and his boat circumnavigated the world but Magellan was killed in a war at a place called Matacan in the Phillipines. Even though Magellan got killed, his boat the Victoria and his crew made it back to Spain and they were famous in history because they circumnavigated the earth.

Dragons vs Broncoes

Loudly I cheered for my team as the Broncoes began to play against the Dragons. As they were playing, Folau got 1 try in the first half and was very happy. In the second half he got another try and he was showing off to the crowd. In the last minute Lockyer drop kicked the ball over the post and the Broncoes won. The final score was Broncoes 10 and Dragons 6. Some Dragons players were upset because they had lost.

Christopher Columbus

In the 1400's Christopher Columbus begged and asked the King of Spain for money and a boat to travel on the west of the world to get to India, because of the dangerous seas of Africa. The people didn't agree with Christopher Columbus because they didn't know what was on the west of the world. When Christopher Columbus reached land he thought he was in India and started calling the central Americans Indian's.

Our Fantastic Trip on the Ted Ashby

Sailing on the Ted Ashby ship was so freezing. The man who pulls the sails asked us if we would like to have a try at pulling up the main sail. As I was pulling I could feel icy wind biting my face. Sailing with the wind, my hair was blowing around so crazy. Waves were lapping against the Ted Ashby boat, as we sailed towards the Harbour Bridge.

Learning about Pressure - April 22 2010

On Monday afternoon Miss King gave Room 14 a balloon each to show pressure. As we blew the balloons we were puffing and straining hard to expand our balloons. Suddenly our balloons popped like a massive volcano exploding. The balloon made sounds like the wind.

The air in the balloon is like hot magma but in a volcano. When the magma rises and fills up the magma chamber, pressure builds and ash, smoke and magma goes up the vent then out the crater. Then the volcano explodes like fireworks.
Click here to see the movie about what we learnt.
